Nuclear Stand-off

I remember my childhood days when i ventured to fire crackers.

In the midst of guys who fired them using their hands, I preferred not to involve myself in any such heroics. Especially when it came to fire pots, i was not very comfortable lighting their tips.

When i was in 10th Standard, i tried to light a fire pot and it misfired. It burst like a firecracker instead of producing its usual flower-like-thing-in-the-sky pattern. I ended up injuring my writing hand ahead of the public examinations.

After this incident, whenever i tried to light a cracker/fire pot , i used to start retreating away from it even before i could light the tip of it properly.

The UPA government is in a very similar situation.

While it looks like going ahead with “lighting the tip” of the nuclear deal, it retreats immediately when the left threaten a withdrawal of support.

I never successfully lit up a firepot thenafter.

The UPA government is not going to successfully implement the deal either.

You have written the blog at a time when its evident that Manmohan Singh has left no stone unturned in carrying out the deal, putting the interests of nation well ahead his own and that of the congress. Even BJP, which claims for national security has not at all tried to help him in such an important matter, showing just the ugly face of petty politics. What you would have wanted that Manmohan Singh should have sacrificed the government without trying to resuce both the deal as well as government. But he has tried to do both of the things. All other leaders except him should be shameful for their conduct in this matter of prime national interest.

  2. Prabhat,

I would like to clarify a thing. I was supportive of the nuclear deal right from the beginning. The other blogs here must be evident of that. I have been expecting the Congress to implement this for sometime now. They have been putting it off considering the left opposition. Now that the elections are due, and the fact that congress are not prepared for an early election due to their latest failures, they are still not carrying the deal forward. I am not supportive of the BJP stand either, like i have mentioned in a previous blog.

  4. That is a very simple and effective analogy.
